Stillwater Sports Minute: Marek Soucek back on the court for Cowboys

STILLWATER, Okla. — The crowd at Gallagher-Iba Arena grew to a roar when they saw Marek Soucek walking to the scorer's table at the end of Saturday's game between Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.

It had been two months since the 7-footer from the Czech Republic last played for the Cowboys, after sustaining a knee injury that had kept him out since the Tennessee game on Nov. 16 in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

Though Soucek played just three minutes, he did get a shot off — draining a 3-pointer from the top of the arc.

"I wasn't going to put him in just because I didn't know if he was fully ready," OSU coach Travis Ford said. "I didn't want to make him look bad — I knew if we put him in it wouldn't hurt our team. But he was ready to roll."

Ford also said he saw something in those limited minutes from Soucek that he hadn't seen from the sophomore in his year and a half in the program.

"I loved his physicality. I hadn't seen him play in so long ... that I made the comment to our coaches that he played in that stretch with a little more physicality than he ever showed last year," Ford said. "So that was good. It was good to see that if we need him, we can throw him in there. But he's still got a little ways to go."
