STILLWATER, Okla. —
The Stillwater Pioneers went into halftime trailing Broken Arrow 2-0 in Tuesday night’s Class 6A, District 3 match.
For the first five minutes of the second half, Stillwater improved its play, but mother nature got in the way. With severe weather heading into the Stillwater area, the match was called early in the second half.
It was ruled an official game as Stillwater lost
2-0 to Broken Arrow. Broken Arrow improves to 3-0 in the District 3 standings, while Stillwater falls to 1-1.
“We didn’t have much of a choice,” coach Seth Condley said. “It would’ve been nice if you can forecast the future. We knew it was possibly going to rain, but we didn’t think it was going to cancel the game.
“We played scared in the first half, and it showed the first 25 minutes. I don’t coach teams to be scared. We played really well for that five minutes and that was kind of what we should’ve been doing in the first half.”
Broken Arrow scored its first goal less than five minutes into the game and added another 10 minutes later. Stillwater (4-5) had its opportunities in the first half, but couldn’t capitalize. Lucas Hess had a chance to score on a breakaway, but just missed wide left. Jake Krysiak’s shot attempt went just above the crossbar.
Stillwater has an ugly history with Broken Arrow. It has been seven years since Stillwater and Broken Arrow matched up. In the previous four meetings, Broken Arrow outscored Stillwater 28-1.
