Coyle’s Fidel Simpson earns weekly honor

STILLWATER, Okla. — Last year then-junior Fidel Simpson was blocking for one of the fastest eight man backs in Coyle’s Magnus Scott at tight end. Now, Simpson is in Scott’s exact position looking to continue where he left off.

“I was definitely walking into big shoes,” Simpson said. “I knew I didn’t have to score every time. As long as we are moving the ball, we are going to score eventually.”

Scoring is something Simpson and the Coyle Bluejackets have done plenty of lately. In the last three games, Coyle is averaging 49 points per game and won by at least 18 points. In an Oct. 5 game against Agra, Simpson ran for 244 yards and four touchdowns.

“He runs hard,” Coyle coach Shane Weathers said. “Our offensive line blocks well for him.”

Simpson said he doesn’t want to sound over confident but thinks the Bluejackets should finish close to the top.

“Our chances of beating these guys are pretty good,” Simpson said. “We want to win out and go to playoffs and continue that tradition of playoffs.”

“I love the high energy stuff,” he said. “Even though it’s country, being able to rock it up, distorted guitars and just seeing the crowd, feeding off of that.”
