Stillwater Sports Minute: Quinn Sharp influential in Saturday's win over TCU

After Saturday’s 36-14 victory over Texas Christian University, Oklahoma State University coach Mike Gundy said he felt that his special teams outperformed the other teams for the first time this season.
“(Quinn Sharp) is terrific in punting the ball,” Gundy said. “His first punt wasn’t very good but other than that he was good. On kickoffs they tried to return one and we got them on the 11. Very important part of the game. We challenged our team before the game. ... I feel good about how we played on special teams.”
Senior kicker Quinn Sharp said he thought the special teams had a great game.
“It was a great day for special teams,” Sharp said. “Kickoffs were great all day. We stopped them inside the 15, and another inside the 20. The rest were touchbacks. Our punt coverage was good. I had a bad first punt on the first possession and that’s on me. The rest of the day we performed well overall.”
Sharp was 5-for-5 on field goal attempts with a long of 42 and scored 18 of OSU’s 36 points. TCU’s Jaden Oberkrom leads the Big 12 in field goal percentage but missed two from 52 and 31 yards. Sharp said it felt good outdueling a solid kicker.
“He went 5 for 5 or 6 for 6 against (Texas) Tech last week and had a big game,” Sharp said. “I talked to him before the game. He’s a great kicker and has had a good year so far. It’s unfortunate he had two misses today like I had last week. Like I said you got to bounce back from it and put it away in your mind and come out for the next one.”
In Week 3 against Louisiana, Sharp went against Groza semifinalist Brett Baer and beat him in punting average and field goal kicking.
