STILLWATER, Okla. —
Stillwater High’s Corey Hassel zipped a line drive to left field to score the game-winning run and pitched two flawless innings as the Pioneers defeated Edmond Memorial 5-3 Thursday at Couch Park.
With the score knotted at 3 apiece in the bottom of the sixth. Ryder Jones singled with one out. Jon Littell fouled out to the right fielder for the second out.
Hassel stepped up to the plate. He swing at a fastball and missed. He was ready for Edmond Memorial pitcher Brad Honeycutt’s next pitch.
“I got a fastball inside and had the opportunity to win the game and just went for it,” Hassel said.
The line drive allowed Jones to score from first as Hassel slid head first into third, beating the throw from the outfield. Jerame Littell singled scoring Hassel as the insurance run.
Jones, Stillwater’s starter, faced just three batters in each of the first three innings, striking out four as the Pioneers built a 2-0 advantage.
Stillwater’s Parker Zimmerman homered in the first. Zimmerman plated the second run with a double in the third that scored Dalton Dowling from first.
