CALERA, Okla. — The Ripley Warriors won the consolation bracket of the Calera Tournament after defeating Achille 14-4 Saturday.
Houston Twoguns was the winning pitcher and improved to 5-2 and helped his own cause with a three-run home run in the first, giving Ripley the lead for good at 3-2. Justin Ford hit two-run single in third to help the Warriors reach a 10-run lead in the bottom of the third. Twoguns struck out the side to end the game.
To advance to the consolation championship, the Warriors beat Fort Townson 7-5 and beat Wapanucka 18-3 on Friday. Against Fort Townson, Ripley trailed 5-4 but with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Griffin Gosney hit a two-run double to give the Warriors a 6-5 lead. Gosney would score an insurance when Garret Gosney drove him in with a single. Trevor Watts earned the win to improve to 2-0.
Ripley put away Wapanucka quickly scoring 18 runs on 17 hits and 24 Warriors batted. Chandler Salinas had the big hit with a grand slam to straightaway center field in his second at-bat in the inning. Dillon Moore earned the victory on the mound. Coach Donnie Hoffman said that's the best he's seen his offense play.
"I don't think I've ever had a team score 18 runs in the first inning," Hoffman said. "We were hitting the ball well."
Haworth knocked Ripley into the consolation bracket on Thursday with a 10-2 victory. The Warriors travel to Drummond at 4:30 p.m. Monday
