KIEFER, Okla. —
The Morrison Wildcats will settle for second place in the district after a tough 23-8 loss to Kiefer.
The Wildcats’ chances at the district title were still alive with a tied game at halftime, but Morrison (8-2) couldn’t keep up with Kiefer (10-0) in the second half. Morrison’s hopes for the win were dashed when the Wildcats allowed Kiefer to score 15 unanswered points in the second half.
The Wildcats will have home-field advantage when they play Fairlane, the third-place team in District A-8, in next week’s first round of playoffs.
Cushing 40, Bethany 13
BETHANY — Despite Cushing’s secured spot in second place in the district, the Tigers still played to win over Bethany.
One name stood out for Cushing (8-2), Gage Stallworth. Stallworth rushed 163 yards and five touchdowns. Quarterback Bingham Hightower also dominated in the air, throwing for 137 yards. Bethany (4-6) couldn’t keep up the pace with only 243 offensive yards.
The Tigers will host Blanchard next week in the first round of the playoffs.
Perry 32, Newkirk 0
Newkirk — Perry had a shutout against Newkirk in its final district game this season.
Perry’s defense pulled through with five sacks, two by Dalton McNeil.
On the offensive side of the ball, Austin Allen was the leading rusher with 22 carries for 163 yards, averaging 7.7 yards per carry. He had one touchdown.
The Newkirk offense fell short. Newkirk’s leading rusher, Ethan Collins, only came away with 112 yards.
The Maroons will travel to Millwood for their first playoff game next Friday.
Okmulgee 26, Perkins-Tryon 20
OKMULGEE — Fumbles proved costly as the Demons (5-5) lost a first-half lead in a 26-20 loss to the Bulldogs.
“We had too many penalties, too many turnovers and too many injuries,” coach Lloyd Wertman said. “We have a long way to go.”
Perkins-Tryon held a 20-12 first-half lead but fumbled eight times, losing six. Okmulgee (3-7) outscored the Demons 14-0 in the second half. The turnovers overshadowed the performance of running backs Tyler Taff and Jacob Peyton, who gained more than 100 yards.
Despite the loss, P-T still qualifies for playoffs and will play at District 3A-1 champion Tuttle.
Bluejacket 74, Carney 44
CARNEY — The clock struck midnight on the Bulldogs’ miracle run as the Chieftains won 74-44.
“It was tough,” coach Mark Davis said. “We had some blown coverages and costly penalties.”
Bluejacket (8-2, 6-2) had control most of the game, racing to a 42-13 lead. Davis said he was proud of how his players fought back. Although Carney (5-5, 4-4) didn’t qualify for the playoffs, it still finished with the best record in school history.
“They have lots to be proud of,” Davis said. “This is going to be a team that will be remembered for a long time because they played as a team and not individuals. They played as a band of brothers.”
Yale 38, Regent Prep 14
YALE— Yale featured a strong running game to come away with the win over Regent Prep.
The Bulldogs (6-4) had 300 rushing yards, resulting in five of their six touchdowns. They racked up points in the endzone, but failed on the majority of their point-after attempts.
Yale plays Warner next Friday in the first round of the playoffs.
Crescent 41, Pawnee 34 OT
CRESCENT — The Black Bears held their own against one of the state’s best but came up short in overtime, 41-34, to the Tigers.
Coach Marlon Houston said he was proud of how his team played despite the outcome.
“The kids hung in there,” Houston said. “They played tough teams and showed up every week. When we were 1-5, 1-6 and 1-7, they stayed positive. The seniors continued to lead. I couldn’t be surrounded by a better group of young men.”
Most of Pawnee’s athletes will move on to basketball and wrestling.
