Ripley baseball earns victory at Dover Festival

DOVER, Okla. — The Ripley Warriors were just a couple of miscues from opening the season with a perfect game at the Dover Festival on Thursday.

The Warriors won a 10-0 four-inning run-rule contest against Covington-Douglas in which C-D had three base runners all game — an error on the second batter of the game and two walks in the fourth — while Garrett Gosney and Cory Sadler combined for a no-hitter on the mound.

Gosney, who started and pitched three innings, recorded all nine of his outs on the mound — catching a linedrive by the first batter and then striking out eight straight batters after the Ripley error — to earn the victory. Sadler pitched the fourth inning, giving up two walks while also striking out a pair of batters.

At the plate, Donnie Hoffman's squad played small ball to get the run-rule, stringing together eight hits mixed in with two Covington-Douglas errors. The biggest hit of the night for Ripley came from Cauldin Greenfield with a three-run double.

No. 13-ranked Ripley will face Garber at 8 p.m. Friday in Drummond, as part of the Dover Festival, before a battle of top 15 squads on Saturday with a 2 p.m. matchup against No. 12 Okarche.

“I love the high energy stuff,” he said. “Even though it’s country, being able to rock it up, distorted guitars and just seeing the crowd, feeding off of that.”
