STILLWATER, Okla. —
It’s almost here — football season.
Big 12 football media day is less than a week away. Oklahoma State Fan Appreciation Day is Aug. 6. The NewsPress will publish its college football preview special section on Aug. 28. The section will have a heavy emphasis on Oklahoma State, but it will also examine the other Big 12 schools and the University of Tulsa.
In preparation for the Big 12 media days, I picked a preseason All-Big 12 Conference Team and sent it to the Big 12 Conference as part of its preseason football poll.
I put five Oklahoma State players on offense and five on defense. They were pretty easy choices because 13 Cowboys return from last year’s 11-2 squad.
This past season, the question mark was personnel, especially first-year starting quarterback Brandon Weeden and the receiving corps. Weeden to Blackmon became the rallying cry last year. Other receivers, like Josh Cooper, stepped up, too.
The question mark this season isn’t players. It’s coaches.
The Pokes have new faces at offensive coordinator, Todd Monken, running backs coach Jemal Singleton and wide receiver coach Kasey Dunn.
Coach Mike Gundy said the offense won’t change dramatically from this past season, but new coordinators and assistant coaches always put their stamp on a program.
The Big Five — OSU, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Missouri and Texas — dominate my all-conference team.
One Texas Tech and one Kansas State player made the team. Oklahoma placed two on defense and three on offense. Missouri, Texas A&M and Texas garnered two each on offense and defense.
So, here are my selections for the Preseason All-Big 12 Conference Team
