STILLWATER, Okla. —
The Stillwater High School football team fooled me last Friday. I picked SHS to lose a close game on the road in Owasso. Instead, they won a close game against Owasso.
Tonight, the Pioneers and Enid Plainsmen collide in another rivalry game. SHS made easy work of rivals Ponca City earlier this season. The Pioneers shouldn’t have any trouble doing the same with Enid. Stillwater 48, Enid 14.
Cushing surprised me as well. With quarterback Blake Murray out, I didn’t think they could beat Cleveland. Boy was I wrong! The Tigers whipped Cleveland behind the running of Dawson Myers. Tecumseh (2-5, 1-3) comes to Cushing. The Tigers will deliver another whipping to improve to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in district. Cushing 38, Tecumseh 12.
Perkins-Tryon just keeps winning. The Demons trampled Prague, 48-21, last Friday. The Demons won’t have any problem at Chandler. Perkins-Tryon 60, Chandler 14.
Will Pawnee go winless this season? Scoring has been a problem all season for the 0-7 Black Bears. Tonight, they face Chouteau-Maize (3-4, 0-3) Chouteau has actually scored fewer points this season that Pawnee. The Black Bears may be on the road, but I think they pick up a close win. Pawnee 18, Chouteau-Maize 12.
Here’s the scenario for the Perry Maroons. Alva, Watonga and Perry are 1-2 in Class 2A, District 1 play. The top three teams in district are set. This is a battle for fourth. Perry jumps into the driver’s seat with a win over Alva. They should beat Alva. Perry 28, Alva 20.
This is the marquee matchup in Oklahoma Class A football. No. 1 Woodland (6-0, 4-0) travels to Morrison to face the No. 6 Wildcats (3-0, 6-1). This will be a battle royale. Both teams can score, but Woodland’s defense is a shade better. Woodland 36, Morrison 35.
It’s Yale’s eighth game of the season and this one has playoff implications. If the Bulldogs (3-4, 2-2) beat Barsndall (0-3, 0-7), they should make the playoffs – barring a complete collapse for the rest of the season. A collapse is not in Yale’s future. Yale 30, Barnsdall 14.
Don’t look now, but Agra’s on a two-game winning streak and have an outside shot at making the playoffs. Agra needs to beat Oaks-Mission to keep their hopes alive. The game is at Agra. I see another Agra win. Agra 30, Oaks-Mission 14.
Carney (1-6, 0-5) goes out of Class C, District 3 to face Prue (1-6, 1-5). Prue can’t score and gives up a lot of points. Carney will pick up win No. 2. Carney 30, Prue 7.
A Coyle-Waukomis game is a huge mismatch. Coyle should win easily. Coyle 40, Waukomis 10.
Last week: 5-3 Overall 46-17
