Ceremony marks 17th anniversary of Oklahoma City bombing

OKLAHOMA CITY — The daughter of one of the victims in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing says it’s important to educate future generations about the attack that killed her mother and 167 others.

Morgan Merrell spoke at Thursday’s ceremony on the 17th anniversary of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah federal building. She was a toddler when her mother, Frankie Ann Merrell, died in the blast on April 19, 1995.

Gov. Mary Fallin also attended Thursday’s ceremony at the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum, where 168 seconds of silence were observed at 9:02 a.m.

Timothy McVeigh was convicted on federal murder charges for the deadly bombing and was executed in 2001. The bombing was the deadliest terrorist attack on U.S. soil before the 9/11 attacks.
