Since taking off the Carmike Cinema moniker in Stillwater, AMC representatives have signaled that there would be big changes for the city’s moviegoing patrons. A couple of big changes were officially announced by AMC Theaters media relations today. Construction will begin in the spring to bring renovations for recliner seating. It will also expand food and beverage options and update ticketing.
According to the release, “In recent years, AMC Theatres has elevated the moviegoing experience though its guest-favorite amenities like its AMC Signature Recliners, reserved seating and expanded food and beverage options, including the AMC Feature Fare menu and MacGuffins adult beverage concept.”
The concept for the adult beverages like beer, wine and cocktails is only being explored by AMC Classic Stillwater 10, so that part isn’t a done deal. Oklahoma passed laws in 2016 that would allow for alcohol to be served in movie theaters. Some Oklahoma theaters have bars, but limit alcohol to certain sections.
The release states the renovations will be completed in phases so they will be able to keep the theater open during construction.
“Upon completion of the renovations, AMC Stillwater 10 will include AMC Signature plush, power recliners and online ticketing, reserved seating and ticketless entry,” according to the release.
Renovation, according to AMC, is expected to be completed by Fall 2019.
