Our Government Affairs Committee is gearing up to host our annual Legislative Luncheon this Friday, and we’d like to invite everyone in the Stillwater area to join us as we hear from Lieutenant Governor Matt Pinnell.
Each year, the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce invites the community to hear from elected local, state and federal leaders. It has served as an opportunity for citizens to advocate for issues of importance to the Stillwater community. Speakers provide an inside look at our state and federal legislature and answer questions from the audience.
In addition to this luncheon, the Government Affairs Committee welcomes community members to the Chamber for a Legislative Breakfast Forum every month that the state legislature is in session. This year, topics varied from economic development incentives to the proposed expansion of medical programs in the state and everything in between.
Most importantly, the forums gave citizens an opportunity to learn about the processes at the Capitol and how they can be directly involved by giving input to our local legislators. Whether you can or can’t make it on Friday, join us June 21 to hear from our local representatives and senator. They’ll give a review of how this year’s session progressed and what they learned -- especially from the representatives, all of whom joined the legislature for their first year in 2019.
Part of the Chamber’s mission is to advocate for the business community at the local, state and federal level. Through various forums during elections, engagement opportunities with elected officials and legislative advocacy, the Chamber seeks to act on behalf of the business community in our area. We look forward to welcoming Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell to help us bridge the gap between small business owners in Stillwater and policy makers at 23rd and Lincoln.
Pinnell was elected as the 17th Lieutenant Governor of the State of Oklahoma on November 6th, 2018. Pinnell serves as Secretary of Tourism and Branding on Governor Kevin Stitt’s cabinet. He also runs a small business with his wife, Lisa, an entrepreneur and inventor.
As an advocate for businesses in Oklahoma, Pinnell currently serves on the Department of Commerce executive committee, leading the department’s efforts to maximize Oklahoma’s Opportunity Zones and focusing on small business growth. Pinnell served as a member of Governor Kevin Stitt’s transition team with a focus on economic development and tourism as Chairman of the Economic Growth Committee. Prior to his election as Lieutenant Governor, Pinnell served as Director of State Parties for the Republican National Committee from 2013 to 2017.
We hope to see you Friday at Meditations Banquet Facility! Registration will begin at 11:30. To register or learn more about the program, visit stillwaterchamber.org.
