Perkins police contend they found 26 prescription pain pills in a Perkins-Tryon High School student's purse.
Perkins police Investigator Gene Morris says the 16-year-old girl did not have a prescription for Darvocet. Someone at school called police, Morris said.
Morris said the girl faces charges of having narcotics on school grounds and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
She was released to her parents, Morris said.
The Food and Drug Administration took Darvocet off the market last year amid concerns about its side effects, including fatal heart rhythm abnormalities, according to Medscape Today.
"That medicine, with it being recalled by the FDA, could have killed someone," Morris said.
