Former state senator emphasizes importance of census

Gladeen Allred, monitor for the League of Women Voters forum, and her husband, retired Oklahoma State Senator Ed Long.

Retired State Sen. Ed Long passed away this early this morning. He was 83. Long was a State Senator from 1988 to 1996 in District 19, which included Enid.

Long was a graduate of Garber High School and earned a Bachelor of Agriculture Education at Oklahoma State University in 1956. He owned and operated a John Deere business, according to his Facebook profile.

Long retired to Stillwater where he remained active in civic and social clubs.
