Residents in Grace Living Center are getting into the Christmas spirit by giving to children in need.

The home’s elders packed shoe boxes full of toys, school supplies and personal items to be sent to children all over the world, said Sue Nasalroad. The boxes are part of Operation Christmas Child, which is a yearly campaign by Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief organization run by Franklin Graham, son of pastor Billy Graham.

“It’s nice to do something for someone,” said Grace resident Patsy Walding. “It makes me feel good to do something for children who maybe no one else will do anything for.”

This is the second year the home has collaborated with University Heights Baptist Church of Stillwater on the project.

“The residents love putting the shoe boxes together,” Nasalroad said. “They like to be able to care for someone, even if it’s a child they’ve never met.”

Residents carefully decorated each box. Half of the boxes were designated for boys and the other half for girls. Staff members in Grace contributed to the cost of the toys.
