The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is a place to come for fun and games. Seniors 50-older are welcome to come check it out.
An all-day defensive driving class will be Wednesday. Call or come by for more information or to sign up.
Center hours are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Thursday, 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up a calendar of events.
Monday: Women’s pool playing and a painting class begin at 9:30 a.m. The women have a good competitive time at the pool tables and the painting class members bring their own painting supplies and share their creative ideas. Afternoon activities begin at 1 p.m. These include rubber bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool and snooker.
Tuesday: You can even have fun while exercising. Come try the free 45-minute exercise class, called Sit ‘n Be Fit. It is held every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by your chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. After exercise, some of the participants stay and practice line dancing steps for fun. You are welcome to come kick up your heels with them around 10:30 a.m. Wii games and ping pong are always available for a fun time, too. Afternoon activities include games such as duplicate bridge, Texas Hold ‘em, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, snooker, pool and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays from 1 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.
Wednesday: The women pool players compete at 9:30 a.m. Wii interactive games and ping pong are also available for participation. Afternoon games that usually begin at 1 p.m. include canasta, dominoes, pool, Texas Hold ‘em, pitch and puzzle solving. The movie, “Joyful Noise,” will be shown at 2 p.m.
Thursday: Limber up with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. It will give you a good 45-minute workout. Afterwards, Wii Fit is available to use. This is an interactive game system that challenges and can help improve your balance. At 1 p.m. you can join in games of canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pitch, pool, snooker and puzzle solving. At 2 p.m. bingo is called. Thursday evenings the center’s doors reopen at 5:30 p.m. for Music Night. The musicians tune up their instruments and start at 6 p.m.
Friday: The sound of pool balls dropping in the pockets starts at 9:30 a.m. as the women take aim with their pool sticks. The painting class also gets together again at the same time. There is exercise equipment, Wii games and a ping pong table all available for use. Afternoon games include canasta, pool, snooker, pitch, Texas Hold ‘em, dominoes and a puzzle-solving.
Last week’s winners of rubber bridge were Penny Sizemore, first, and Treca Baer, second. Social bridge winners were Pauline Poe, first, and Lynn Fent, second. Duplicate bridge winning partners were Murna and Lionel Raff, first, and Laurie Schlobohm and Lucy Robinson, second. Texas Hold ‘em winner of the week was Roy Parcell. Previous week winner of a men’s pool tournament was Ron Thomas.
