American Airlines changes Stillwater flight schedule

File Photo  The daily commercial flight schedule at Stillwater Regional Airport is changing effective June 4.

People flying American Airlines out of Stillwater Regional Airport will notice flight times changing later this year.

Airport Director Gary Johnson confirmed the commercial flight schedule will be changing effective June 4.

The current schedule shows departures from Stillwater at 6:57 a.m. and 2:36 p.m. daily. The final flight of the day leaves DFW airport at 8:25 p.m. and arrives in Stillwater at 9:38 p.m.

In a shift that appears to base the crew out of Dallas instead of Stillwater, the first flight of the day departs Dallas at 10:48 a.m. and arrives in Stillwater at 12:06 p.m.

Flights will leave Stillwater at 12:31 p.m. and 6:05 p.m., ending their day in Dallas at 7:21 p.m.

American Airlines is making other changes as well. The airline's boarding procedure changed effective March 1, and it introduced no-frills Economy Basic fares on some flights in February.

The new boarding procedure doesn't actually change who gets on the plane first. It divides passengers into nine boarding groups with First Class and U.S. military passengers still boarding first, followed by various levels of priority and rewards passengers. Regular fares board in groups 6-8 and Basic Economy passengers board last.

Basic Economy passengers will have their seats assigned at the gate, won't be able to carry on anything more than one personal bag, like a backpack or purse, that fits under the seat and won't be able to use overhead storage. They will still earn rewards miles, but miles toward the airlines Elite rewards status will be earned at 50 percent of the normal rate.

Any bags in excess of the one personal bag will have to be checked at the gate which will cost $25 per bag.The tickets are cannot be changed or refunded. In a January release the airline said they are "use it or lose it."

American Airlines calls Basic Economy "simple and affordable ... with the option to pay for just the services they want."

The Basic Economy fares were started on limited flights and will gradually expand as the year progresses. They won't be available on all flights.
