With the filing period ending Wednesday, a February special election to fill the Payne County Commission District 1 seat will be a three-way race.
That race was one of several drawing candidates during this week’s three-day filing period for school board and special elections.
Zachary Cavett, Bobby Farley and former Payne County Sheriff Noel Bagwell filed for the District 1 seat left open when Payne County Commissioner Bill Deering died in September. Deering had held the seat since 1995.
Farley, who ran for the seat against Deering last year, and Bagwell, both Democrats, will face each other in a primary Feb. 14. The winner will face Cavett, the lone Republican, in an April 3 general election.
Five candidates filed for a special election to fill a vacant Oklahoma Senate District 20 seat. That seat was held by Sen. David Myers, R-Ponca City, who died last month. Myers, 73, was first elected in 2002 and was serving his last four-year term.
District 20 includes Pawnee, Noble, Logan and Kingfisher counties.
Phil Berkenbile, Wayne Murphey, Ann AJ Griffin and Chris Humphreys — who all filed as Republicans — will face off in the Feb. 14 primary. Democrat Magnus W.T. Scott will face that winner in the April 3 general election.
Below is a list of candidates who filed for Feb. 14 school board elections. Because there are no races with more than two candidates, there will be no April 3 run-off election.
