Stillwater Police say they had terminated pursuit of a Morrison teenager before he crashed his motorcycle Friday night.

Jesse Kyle Smith, 17, died of injuries sustained in the crash.

Police officers attempted to stop Smith for reckless driving in the area of Hall of Fame and Main at about 10:25 p.m. Friday. Oklahoma Highway Patrol officers later spotted Smith’s motorcycle around Richmond and Jardot at speeds exceeding 85 mph, but lost contact near Jardot and Airport.

Payne County Sheriff deputies located the motorcycle east of the intersection of Fairgrounds and Airport. Deputies found skid marks on the road and discovered the crash site, said Stillwater Assistant Police Chief Ron Thrasher.

Smith apparently lost control of the motorcycle on the gravel road, according to a release from SPD.

He was found in the creek bed and taken to Stillwater Medical Center by Stillwater Fire Department. He later died of his injuries.

Thrasher said SPD officers had terminated pursuit of Smith and were almost two miles from the scene of the crash when it was discovered.

OHP is investigating the accident.
