Central Rural Electric Cooperative has always had high standards for its lineworkers. The emphasis on safety and knowledge are never compromised. That commitment is being recognized.

CREC’s apprentice lineworker program dates back to the ‘70s when cooperative linemen trained at Indian Meridian Vo-Tech. When the vo-tech stopped offering its program, CREC kept the training and its curriculum and established an in-house four-year apprenticeship. Now, in conjunction with the Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives, CREC has been approved as a registered apprenticeship program by the United States Department of Labor.

“We’ve always been proud of our training program, but having our apprenticeship registered with the Department of Labor offers an extra credential to our lineworkers,” said Bob Blair, CREC’s manager of operations.
