The deadline for registration for the 15th Annual Stillwater Senior Olympics is fast approaching for events held Aug. 19-20 and Aug. 25-26 and also in November.

Seniors interested in competing in the events need to register by Tuesday, coordinator Valerie Bloodgood said.

This year’s theme is “Health and Happiness,” and that’s just what the Senior Citizens Center tries to promote, Bloodgood said.

“We try to encourage seniors to continue, or start, health and fitness,” she said.

The event started with 50 people in its inaugural year in 1991 and has grown to average about 200 seniors each year, Bloodgood said, adding that one year the event has had as many as 400 seniors.

Events on Aug. 19-20 include cycling and softball. Track and field, golf, bowling, walking, tennis and archery are offered Aug. 25-26.

Other events, including weightlifting, snooker and basketball, are offered during the November games.

There is a $10 fee to enter as many events as desired, and some events may have additional costs, Bloodgood said.

To register, call the center at 747-8080 or stop by 1015 E. 12th.
