Students from over 25 countries are waiting to hear of a family wanting to host them for the up coming school year.
The non-profit company called CETUSA ( Council for Education through travel USA) places boy and girl high school students from all over the world in host families all over America for 1 to 2 semesters.
These students come with their own spending money and insurance. A host family provides a bed of their own, some meals and some transportation, just like their own children.
A family doesn’t have to have children in school. Also a single person can host; they need to be at least 28 years of age.
When a family is considering hosting, they may contact Sharon Robinson at 377-6200 and let her know what country they are thinking about and some of the family interests. She then looks at the different profiles of students and narrows down the list and then e-mails some potential student profiles to the host family.
A host family profile is done, references checked and a background check is done on any one at least 18 living in the residence.
Some schools have just a certain amount of exchange students each year. So when a family is considering hosting, getting started as soon as possible is very important.
The student arrives a week or so before school starts and leaves within seven days of school ending.
Robinson will answer any questions and will send profiles to anyone that has a desire to host.
