A Langston man was admitted into OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City in stable condition after being hit by an allegedly drunken driver shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

John Haynes, 56, was driving westbound on state Highway 33 in a 1998 Ford Mustang when an eastbound vehicle driven by Steve Calderwood, 44, of Coyle, struck his vehicle as Calderwood tried to turn north on Hiawasee, according to an OHP report.

Haynes was flown to OU Medical Center with head, arm, leg and internal and external injuries.

Calderwood was driving a 1992 Ford F-150 and was not injured. OHP said he had been drinking. Neither man had any passengers, and both were wearing their seat belts, according to OHP.

Coyle Police, Langston Police and the Logan County Sheriff’s Department also responded.
