Oklahoma State University will celebrate the grand opening of walking trails on campus Tuesday morning. Marketing coordinator Jennifer Hladik provides more details about the grand opening celebration and walking trails.
1 What is the purpose of the Cowboy Walking Trails?
The Cowboy Walking Trails were designed to focus on health and increase activity on our OSU Stillwater campus to be used by students, OSU employees and our Stillwater community. The grand opening of the Cowboy Walking Trails is a kick-off celebration for a “Be Active” campaign encouraging people to get moving by fitting in more activity during their daily routines. The Cowboy Walking Trails are conveniently located on campus. If a student gets out of class early, they can use the trails before their next class starts. Or if an employee wants to go for a walk during their lunch hour, they will have a trail already mapped out for them.
2 How will the grand opening celebration start?
The grand opening will begin Tuesday at 11:45 a.m. on the corner of Hester Street and Legacy Walk, which is the sidewalk south of the Civil Engineering Lab on Hester Street. We will hear from our wellness leaders President Hargis, First Cowgirl Ann Hargis and Chief Wellness Officer Dr. Suzy Harrington, and then we will proceed in walking the Orange Trail, approximately 0.89 miles.
3 How will the grand opening celebration end?
The celebration will conclude at the Student Union for “Be Active on the Plaza” to learn about all of the wellness programs and services available at Oklahoma State University. The first 350 people to complete the walk will receive a free “Be Active” Cowboy Walking Trails T-shirt and all walk participants will have a chance to win prizes including: iPad mini, FitBit, one semester OrangeRide bike rental, Nike apparel, massage therapy, personal training and other wellness related prizes.
4 Where are the walking trails located on the OSU campus?
The walking trails are located on the OSU Stillwater campus. For a printable map, you can visit our website at http://wellness.okstate.edu/healthiest-campus/walking-trails.
5 How many trails are there and what are their distances?
There are three trail options depending on how far you want to walk and how much time you have. The White Trail is 0.66 miles, the Orange Trail is 0.89 miles and the Outer Loop of both trails is 1.3 miles. The trails are marked with medallions on the sidewalks so that you don’t get lost. In my opinion, we have the most beautiful college campus in the country and the Cowboy Walking Trails will provide a great opportunity to both enjoy the beauty of our campus and exercise.
