The Stillwater school board Tuesday approved bids for new buses funded by a bond issue approved by voters last month.

The winning bids came from Roberts Bus Center for eight 65-passenger regular route buses at $495,968, and for two 29-passenger special needs buses at $139,860. The board also approved the lowest bid from Ross Transportation for two 46-passenger activity trip buses at $223,634.

Also during the meeting, the board unanimously approved the treasurer’s report for the 2005-6 fiscal year.

Chief Financial Officer Phillip Storm presented the report showing the schools spent $29,220,543.73 for the 2005-6 year. That number is slightly lower than the $29,628,790.75 spent during the year before.

The report also showed Stillwater schools had a carry-over amount of $1,691,166.99 at the beginning of the 2005-6 fiscal year. The carry-over amount for last year will be known at the end of this month.

The board was to consider bids for a district-wide parking lot resurfacing and re-striping during the meeting. However, there were no bidders because contractors are busy with other projects in the district and the board had a projected completion date set for August, Storm said.

The board will review the issue and come up with other options, Storm said.
