An organization that formed in Ponca City to support families who have lost children will be holding a Christmas memorial service Monday.

Raindrops Child Loss Support Services will hold a memorial service at the First United Methodist Church, Seventh and Duck, at 7 p.m.

According to Shelly Sherer, of the Stillwater chapter of Raindrops, the service will feature a memorial tree and those planning to attend are asked to bring an ornament to place in the tree in memory of their child.

Ornaments may be hand made or purchased, and may be personalized to include the name, life dates, photo and more.

Ornaments from years past will be placed on the tree prior to the service.

The service will also include music, candle lighting, placing of ornaments and a message of comfort and remembrance from Owen Nease, pastor of Henderson Hills Baptist Church. Refreshments and fellowship will follow.

Raindrops is a support organization for families who have lost children of any age and for any reason. Sherer said she initiated a chapter of Raindrops in 2000 after the loses of her child.

“It’s too big of a town for people to not have help going through this,” Sherer said.

Sherer said she also looking for help with the support group with sending e-mails and mailings.
