A 20-year-old Sapulpa woman was killed in a two-car collision Wednesday morning at U.S. Highway 177 and Yost Lake Road, just north of the Cimarron Turnpike ramp. Kayleah Joyann Bell, one of the drivers, died at the scene of the collision from head and internal injuries according to the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety. The other driver, Johnathan Chance Taylor, 23, of Roosevelt was taken to Stillwater Medical Center where he was treated and released.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s report, Bell, driving a 2004 Ford F-150 and Taylor, driving a 2011 Ford F-25, were both northbound on 177 when Bell pulled her truck to the shoulder, attempted to make a U-turn and was then struck by Taylor’s vehicle while turning.
The cause of the crash is listed as an improper U-turn, but it is still under investigation. Conditions were listed as clear weather with a dry roadway.
The collision occurred at around 7:15 a.m. Both lanes were closed for several hours before it was finally opened fully at 10:45 a.m.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troop K, Payne County Sheriff’s Office, Stillwater Fire Department and LifeNet responded.
