An 11-year-old Stillwater girl was critically injured Sunday after being struck by a car near the 900 block of West Brown Street. According to Stillwater Police, Anna Marie Davis, died from her injuries at 10:32 a.m. Monday at OU Children’s hospital in Oklahoma City.
Stillwater Police say the preliminary investigation indicates that she was riding a skateboard down her driveway and into the roadway when she ran into a passing car.
Witnesses told police the child did not see the vehicle, and the driver of the vehicle did not see the child due to a bush obstructing their vision. Police say the child struck the rear of the vehicle. She was transported by helicopter to OU Children’s.
“She passed away with her family at her side,” said the release by SPD. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Anna, her family and all those affected by this tragedy. Administrators at Anna’s school have been advised so they can take appropriate steps for when her classmates and friends return to school tomorrow.”
Richmond Elementary Principal Kendra Rider sent an email to all parents Monday afternoon, alerting them that 11-year-old fifth-grader Anna Davis had passed away and that counselors will be available for students and staff at the school this week.
“Please direct your thoughts and prayers to this family as they grieve the loss of their precious daughter,” Rider said in the email.
In a Facebook post from mother Bethany Diaz, it was believed Anna had suffered brain and internal trunk injuries.
