Jared Lance Roybal, 23, of Tonkawa died early Sunday morning after being shot in the neck during an incident in Stillwater. Darwin Lonestar Marcel Doyal, 29, of Stillwater was arrested on a charge of murder in connection with the shooting and booked into the Stillwater Municipal Jail.

Stillwater Police responded at 1:45 a.m. Sunday to a 911 call of a shooting. The victim was in a van with a gunshot wound to his neck, according to a release from the Stillwater Police Department. Roybal had been driven to the parking lot of the On Cue convenience store at 601 E. 6th Ave by his brother, who asked the clerk to call for help.

Roybal was transported to Stillwater Medical Center then transfered to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where he died as a result of his wound.

Investigating officers went to the scene of the shooting on the east side of Stillwater at the Oak Ridge Mobile Home Park in the 3100 Block of E. Raintree Ave.

Stillwater police say their preliminary investigation indicates that Roybal and his brother were driving when they came upon two vehicles stopped in the road on Raintree Avenue. Two of the people in the vehicles were involved in a verbal altercation.

As Roybal and his brother pulled closer, one of the vehicles pulled away and one of the people who had been arguing began yelling at Roybal.

As Roybal began to respond, the man pulled out a hand gun and shot Roybal, according to the SPD release.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information concerning the incident is asked to call the Stillwater Police Department at 405-372-4171.
