Last week, more than 1.5 million people signed a petition to ask Congress to oppose President Bush’s push to slash NPR and PBS funding and eliminate funding entirely in two years.

Under this pressure, Congress restored some funding for this year, but House Republicans just voted to eliminate all funding in two years.

Unbelievably, the cuts start by terminating support for commercial-free children’s shows like “Sesame Street,” “Clifford” and “Maya and Miguel.”

Americans trust public broadcasting more than any other news source. I would like to ask everyone in our community who enjoys shows on NPR and PBS to call and write to their elected officials to stop this ideological attack on our free press. If we have the money to wage a war in Iraq and to give the richest in this country tax cuts, we should also have the money for Elmo!
