Blazathon, the annual event that brings people and their fantastic barbecue to Stillwater, is upon us again. Today’s competition and fundraiser marks the 31st annual Blazathon, which has become an event to look forward to each year.
The event serves as a regional qualifier for the American Royal World Series of Barbecue in Kansas City, which will celebrate its 40th year of competition in 2019. Blazathon also serves as a fundraiser for Kickin’ Childhood Hunger, a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating childhood hunger in north central Oklahoma. Two years ago, Blazathon raised more than $8,000 for Kickin’ Childhood Hunger.
The barbecue cook-off contest and lunch for the public is set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Tickets for the public to eat are $12 at the door and children 3-10 are $5 at the door. There will also be a live auction beginning at 2 p.m., and all funds will go toward Kickin’ Childhood Hunger.
Blazathon is an event that is well worth going to. Not only can you experience some excellent food, you can also help an organization that does a great service for north central Oklahoma. Blazathon has been a Stillwater staple for more than three decades, now, and will surely continue to bring great barbecue and fun to Stillwater each year.
