Lady Demons roll
MCLOUD — Class 4A’s 15th-ranked Perkins-Tryon hammered McLoud, 72-38, on Tuesday night to improve to 2-1. The Lady Demons, who play at Okemah on Friday, got 16 points from Ashley Rush and 10 from Courtney Bayhylle. Twelve players scored for P-T.
Ripley improves to 9-2
WELLSTON — Class A No. 18 Ripley defeated Wellston, 34-26, on the road Tuesday. Senior Jennifer Vasquez led the Lady Warriors (9-2) with 11 points, and Bailey Silvers added 10 points and five rebounds. Tyler Sturgeon, who recorded five points, also had five steals.
FHS beats 3A Alva
RED ROCK — Frontier’s Lady Mustangs got 17 points from Hope Conneywerdy in a 54-42 win over Class 3A’s 16th-ranked Alva on Tuesday.
Allison LittleCrow had 14 points and eight rebounds; Julia Moore had eight points and eight rebounds and Sharon Forte had eight assists and six rebounds for Class A’s 15th-ranked Lady Mustangs (3-2).
Road win for MHS
CRESCENT — Senior Laine Wheatley scored 13 points and Kamie Casey added 10 as Morrison beat Class 2A Crescent, 42-32. MHS (3-1) held the hosts to four second period points, but led just 28-24 entering the final eight minutes.
“I told the team that it was going to come down to who wanted it more in the fourth,” said MHS coach Lance Radford, whose squad is ranked 13th in Class A.
Yale visits MHS on Friday.
M-O wins at D’port
DAVENPORT — Class B Mulhall-Orlando led 31-18 at intermission and held off Davenport, 51-47. The Lady Panthers (5-7) got 11 points from Kayla Wiss and 10 each from Kayle Golay and Melissa Wills 10.
The Lady Bulldogs finished 26-3 last season and lost in Class A’s state championship game. No starters returned from the 2005-06 campaign.
M-O plays at Coyle on Friday.
Ripley wins at Wellston
WELLSTON — James Bailey scored 22 points, including six three-point field goals, but it wasn’t enough for Wellston against Class A’s 10th-ranked Ripley, who picked up a 51-47 victory.
“We started defending a little bit, but Bailey just shot lights out,” said RHS coach Doug Scott, whose club is now 9-2. “Wellston is a good club, it’s a nice road win for us.”
Chris Vasquez led the Warriors with 13 points. Justin Dale and Brett Tilley each scored 11.
Class 2A Crescent, a state quarterfinalist last season, visits Ripley on Friday.
Too much Shaw
CRESCENT — Prince Shaw scored 28 points to lead Crescent to a 55-32 win over Morrison (1-3). The Wildcats trailed 25-21 at halftime, but the hosts opened the second half with a 20-8 run.
Seth Owens led the Wildcats with nine points. Ricky Holba added eight.
Weir scores 27
DAVENPORT — Junior Luke Weir scored 27 points and Mulhall-Orlando improved to 7-5 with a 61-56 road win. Casey Yost and Chance Cook each scored 11 points for the Panthers.
Senior Sean MacLeod led DHS with 20 points. The Bulldogs lost in Class B’s state football championship game to Morrison last Monday.
SJHS 8th splits
JENKS — Stillwater Junior High’s 8th grade squads split games at Jenks on Tuesday.
The girls, led by Courtney Shinault’s nine points and Emma Gade and Jamie Kraybill’s seven each, beat Jenks, 34-20. Ten players scored for SJHS.
The boys’ team (2-2) dropped a 53-39 decision. Both play at Sand Springs on Monday.
