Coyle senior Ryan Weathers kept the Morrison Wildcats’ lineup in check with 15 strikeouts in a 6-1 Bluejackets’ win Saturday.
“Ryan pitched one of the best games I’ve ever seen,” coach Josh Sumrall said.
Weathers pitched all seven innings and contributed with his bat as he drove in a run. Jared Weathers led Coyle offensively with three hits and scored three runs. William Gebhart went 1 for 4 with an RBI.
Ty Stout took the loss for the Wildcats. Josh Hite also pitched. Morrison visits Newkirk at 4 p.m. Tuesday. The Bluejackets (11-8) host Carney at 4 p.m. Monday before hosting their tournament Thursday through Saturday.
Pawnee takes third at Pawhuska Tournament
PAWHUSKA — The Black Bears regrouped after their semifinal loss and routed the Hominy Bucks 11-3 Saturday in the third-place game of the Pawhuska Tournament.
Pawnee scored four runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-1 lead. Hominy cut the lead to two with two runs in the third. The Black Bears responded with two runs in the fourth and four in the sixth. Pawnee was the beneficiary of seven errors by Hominy. Matt Campbell earned the win, pitching the first three innings and recording four strikeouts. Jeremiah Johnson pitched the last three innings and struck out eight.
Sam Stingley led the Black Bears offensively with two hits, including a double and drove in four runs. Campbell, Browning Nicolet, Paydon Moore and Alex Roughface combined for nine stolen bases. Pawnee visits Shidler at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
