The freshman Stillwater Junior High football team closed the season with a 7-6 victory over Muskogee on Tuesday.

The Pioneers (2-7) trailed 6-0 after Muskogee scored but failed on a two-point conversion in the first quarter.

They responded with their touchdown in the second quarter, when Anthony Sparks took a screen pass from Daniel Cassel 30 yards to the endzone. Cassel added the game-winning extra point.

SJHS coach Justin Mills said neither team threatened to score again after that.

“It was a defensive battle and we played the field position game,” Mills said. “Our defense played as well (Tuesday) as it had all year.”

Of SJHS’s seven losses, two were by three points and one each were by seven, 10 and 14.
