The complete pairings and a partial list of the “silent auction” items are set to go for the 17th Annual Stillwater NewsPress-Pioneer Play Day at the Stillwater Country Club on Friday with shotgun starts at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

A total of 31 foursomes and fivesomes will bid for the morning and afternoon championships of this fundraising affair directed by its perennial chairman, the Lord Mayor Roger McMillian. McMillian is quick to remind people the “silent auction” in the Country Club clubhouse isn’t restricted to participants or hole sponsors in the event but open to the general public.

“We’ve always opened this part of playday to the general public,” McMillian said. “In fact, over half of the items taken in the auction last year were done so by people who didn’t play golf but just wanted to help Stillwater High School boys and girls.”

Among the items open to bidding include two skybox seats to a Houston Texan NFL game, plus two nights for two in an adjacent hotel; the same for a pair of skybox seats for a Houston Astros game plus two nights lodging. Also, two skybox seats to a Houston Rockets game plus the hotel accommodations, all of this donated by former Pioneer athlete Chad Clay.

Matt Holliday has come up with a ball, bat and two tickets to a Colorado Rockies home game. Josh Fields has offered a ball, bat, hat and a Chicago White Sox shirt which he has autographed. Of course, Holliday and Fields were former standout quarterbacks for SHS and Fields went on to produce great winning games for Oklahoma State.

A large variety of golf outings and equipment will also be on the table and available for bidding.
